Artist Spotlight: Durhminic

With honour, we add a Durhminic piece to the Esther Fair 2 prize pool. Thank you so much for creating this dope piece.

Durhminic is a Jakarta-based illustrator obsessed with digitally painting the cute, colourful, and cool. Durhminic is the artist and creator of the Pepita and Friends and Sol Badguys series.

Today we learn more about Durhminic, so without further ado, let's jump in.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi, I am an illustrator from Indonesia. I love creating cute animal-themed artwork. Lately, I have been really enjoying making some animal-themed PFPs. I have 2 collections now, the Pepita and Friends and the SOL Badguys.

2. How do you get into your creative zone?

I think a significant influence on my art is the games and movies I watch and spending time with my pets (dogs). I tend to get ideas by observing things and then using them later when I sit down to work.

3. When in the flow, what does your process look like?

Right now, I like sketching ideas using a big brush loosely. This helps me try and express the vision I have in my head first as truthfully as possible. Then I come back to research the components of my idea. This means looking back at the realism of the pose, perspective, references, lighting, etc. To make my image look more believable, I use these findings to fix my original sketch.

4. Tell us about your Esther piece?

The Bad in the title comes from the Badguys, the name of my PFP characters on SOL. My Esther piece is about Esther and one of my Badguys developing a connection with one another. I wanted to capture the feeling of admiration and how such a strong feeling gives you a solid push to go outside your comfort zone. I tried to show this in this piece through the lighting and the contrast between light and shadow. Perhaps this Badguy will join Esther along on her platform perils, or maybe Esther may join this Badguy in causing a little mischief in the Badlands. Who knows?

5. What are you most excited about in web3?

Creating new connections and sharing about life, jokes, cute animals, and art.

6. What's your most significant learning experience in web3?

One really eye-opening thing I learned is that, given how connected the space is, you can help yourself by helping others. I think the word WAGMI really encompasses this idea. The genuine connections you create can often lead to many opportunities. You often achieve more together than by only doing everything with yourself in mind. Really lucky to have been part of some great communities.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share a piece of yourself and for donating this Esther piece to the Fair; we are thrilled to have you on the team. If you want to say hi to Durhminic, come along to Twitter.
